J-Pop

J-Pop is a modern music genre especially popular among the younger generation in Japan.

The name “J-Pop” was first created in the 1980s, and music started being categorized as “J-Pop” in 90s.  There are many famous J-Pop artists, for example, Southern All Stars, B’z, Namie Amuro, SMAP, Hikaru Utada, Mr. Children and Kobukuro.  The idol group trend has become big again starting in the late 2000s.  Popular idol groups are Momoiro Clover Z, Kanjani Eight, Morning Musume, AKB48, Arashi, etc.
